We’re back in 1958, and it’s time for the Wonderettes to graduate in this delightful sequel to the smash Off-Broadway hit! Join Betty Jean, Cindy Lou, Missy, and Suzy as they sing about their final year in high school, celebrate with their fellow classmates and teachers, and prepare for their next step toward a bright future. Act II zooms ahead to 1968, where the girls perform as bride and bridesmaids to celebrate Missy’s marriage to Mr. Lee! Featuring “Rock Around the Clock,” “At the Hop,” “Dancing in the Street,” “River Deep, Mountain High,” and 25 more hits, The Marvelous Wonderettes: Caps & Gowns will have your audience cheering for more!

Characters: All Female, ages listed are ages

BETTY JEAN - (18, 28) is the self-anointed class clown of the group, always vying for attention from her best friend Cindy Lou. She loves boy humor, and is probably the most physically fit out of all the girls— or at least the most "sporty." Red-headed Betty Jean has a loving heart that is easy to break, as we see in Act II. (Alto with strong low range.)

CINDY LOU - (18, 28) knows she is the prettiest girl at Springfield High. Her ongoing rivalry with best friend Betty Jean bursts forth throughout their performance, threatening to derail the planned activities of their Graduation Day. Raven-haired Cindy Lou would be considered the "bad girl," or "mean girl" of the group, but truly has a hidden heart of gold that shines through in Act II. (Mezzo Soprano with belt— sings lead on many songs.)

MISSY - (18, 28) is the over-achiever of the group. She is always ready to cover for mistakes and jump in and save the day. She has been best friends with Suzy since elementary school. Brown-haired Missy’s hidden heart-throb is teacher Mr. Lee, whom she finally weds in Act II. (Soprano with wide range and very high vocals.)

SUZY - (18, 28) is the gum-chewing, happy-go-lucky, go-along girl. Blonde Suzy is always a little giddy and a little silly, and finds great pleasure in everything she does. Slightly ditzy, Act I finds Suzy flunking out of her elective Library class for electing not to go, but finally receives her GED in Act II. Her best friend is Missy. (Mezzo Alto with a sweet, soulful sound and big belts.)

The Play that Goes Wrong- 1920s

Director - Nathanael Fisher

Rehearsals: Tentative Jan 6th - 25th

Performances: Jan 26th - Feb 4th Thurs - Sat at 7:30pm, Sundays and Wednesdays at 230pm

Additional performances: 930am - Jan 31st

The Play That Goes Wrong begins before the curtain has even been raised, as the audience are present while the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society prepare to stage their new production – the 1920s murder mystery 'Murder at Haversham Manor'. However the set is not yet complete and there is no time to finish it off…..the show must go on!

With a murder (and a moving corpse) established from the beginning, the murder mystery gets into full flow. However, the props start to disappear, actors go missing and the set begins to collapse around, and often on, the cast. Mayhem ensues, the acting gets worse, and the set becomes increasingly dangerous, but the company struggles on regardless. The question is whether any of the cast and crew will remain standing, or conscious, by the final curtain?!

CHRIS: (Male) (The director of the show – also plays Inspector Carter). A first-time director but a fairly decent actor if maybe a little melodramatic. Maybe he’s been in a Shakespeare play once. He tries his best to keep the show on track while gritting his teeth at the ineptness which surrounds him.

JONATHAN: (Male) (Plays Charles Haversham, deceased). Poor guy. He’s been cast as a corpse but has trouble playing dead. Don’t worry – he actually has some lines as the play progresses.

SANDRA: (Female)  (Plays Florence, the fiancé of the deceased who is having a secret affair with his brother). She is the company’s leading lady; a bit of a diva who thinks she’s more talented than she really is. (Or maybe she’s not too bright? There’s room for interpretation.)

MAX: (Male) (Plays Cecil, brother of the deceased who is having a secret affair with Florence – also plays Arthur the gardener in Act II). This role is fairly open to interpretation. Is he the company’s typical male ingenue? Their go-to character actor? A bit of a ham who likes applause?

ROBERT: (Male) (Plays Thomas, the deceased best friend and Florence’s brother). This is the sort of actor who always gets cast as the ‘best friend’ or ‘brother.’ Earnest and optimistic, he always believes the show is going much more smoothly than it really is.

DENNIS [or DENISE]: (Plays Perkins the butler). Probably the worst actor of the bunch. Has difficulty pronouncing big words and has to write a cheat sheet on their sleeve. Note: The actor cast in this role will need to be comfortable performing on a seven-foot-high platform with no railing.

ANNIE: (Female) (The stage manager). Generally able to solve problems quickly. When she has to substitute as the leading lady, she goes from nervous to confident to downright competitive.

TREVOR: (Male) (The sound tech guy). Occasionally misses his cues or forgets to turn his mic off. Generally stays backstage until he too must substitute as the leading lady. (This is the least physically demanding role and is less of a time commitment.)

Crimes of the Heart -  Mississippi 1974

Director - Sherry Landrum

Rehearsals: Jan 28th  - Feb 15th

Performances: Feb 16th - Feb 25th Thurs - Sat at 7:30pm, Sundays and Wednesdays at 230pm

The three MaGrath sisters are back together in their hometown of Hazelhurst, Mississippi for the first time in a decade. Lenny, the eldest, never left Hazelhurst -- she is the caretaker of the sisters’ cantankerous Old Granddaddy. Meg, the middle sister, left home to pursue stardom as a singer in Los Angeles, but has, so far, only found happiness at the bottom of a bottle. And Babe, the youngest, has just been arrested for the murder of her abusive husband, Zackery Bottrelle. Under the scorching heat of the Mississippi sun, past resentments bubble to the surface and each sister must come to terms with the consequences of her own “crimes of the heart.”

LENNY MCGRATH: (Female), stage age 28-35. Lenny is the eldest of the Mcgrath sisters. She is insecure and lonely. Has carried the weight of caring for her sick grandfather. She loves her sisters but can be jealous of them.

MEG MCGRATH: (Female), stage age 25-30. Meg is the middle wild child. She recently returned home after trying to build a music career in LA.  She is thought to be the favourite of the three sisters.

BABE BOTRELLE: (Female), stage age 20-25. Babe is the youngest sister. She has recently been arrested for shooting her husband.

CHICK BOYLE: (Female), stage age 28-35. Chick is the overbearing first cousin of the McGrath sisters. Very concerned with protecting the family’s good southern name. Very judgmental.

DOC PORTER: (Male), stage age 28-35. Doc is Meg’s ex-boyfriend. His dreams of becoming a doctor were dashed after being injured in Hurricane Camille while with Meg. He has since married and had children but remains fond of Meg.

BARNETT LOYD: (Male), stage age 25-30, ideally baby faced or boyish. Barnette is a young ambitious lawyer hired to defend Babe. He has his own motives for taking the case. He can be extremely awkward.
